The Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is an official electronic permission issued by the Department of Immigration & Emigration that allows citizens of eligible countries to enter Sri Lanka for short-term tourism, family visits, or certain business activities. It is electronically linked to your passport and replaces paper visas and embassy appointments—application and approval are handled online.
The ETA system is operated by Sri Lankan immigration authorities and is available to travelers from many eligible countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. Once approved, the ETA generally supports stays of up to 30 days and provides a double-entry facility within that initial period.
Apply for a Sri Lanka ETA if you plan to travel for tourism, visiting family or friends, or short business visits. Each traveler, including children and infants, must have an individual ETA linked to their own passport.
Note: If you are not eligible for the ETA, you may need to apply for a different visa category through a Sri Lankan diplomatic mission.
Applying for your Sri Lanka ETA is fast, simple, and 100% online. Follow these three steps:
Provide your personal details and passport information exactly as shown on your travel document to avoid delays.
Use any major international card. The total includes the official fee and secure processing.
Once approved, your ETA is linked to your passport. Most applications are processed within 24–72 hours. We recommend applying at least one week before departure.
The Sri Lanka ETA is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. It allows a stay of up to 30 days with double-entry permission for tourism purposes. You may request an extension of up to 90 days after arrival.
The ETA permits tourism, family visits, and short business activities. It does not permit paid work or long-term residence. You must depart Sri Lanka before your authorized stay ends. Extensions beyond 30 days may be requested with the immigration authorities in Sri Lanka.
